Turbine-Generator Vibration Analysis 2026

Turbine-Generator Vibration Analysis Seminar (3 Days)

This course is ideal for plant operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel interested in turbine- generator vibration data acquisition, diagnostics, and analysis. It is ideal for new engineers and those who are new to turbine-generator vibration analysis. The program is based on turbine-generator designs by GE®, but references to other OEMs will be made. Participants will learn about turbine-generator vibration analysis methodology and will be able to identify vibration concepts using correct terminology.

An overview of turbine operational modes and rotordynamic response will give participants a clear understanding of the mechanical vibration behavior common in multi-rotor turbine-generator trains. The identification, diagnosis, and corrective action for common machinery malfunctions such as rubs, looseness, misalignment, and imbalance will be discussed, and participants will work through interactive exercises to understand vibration data formats and corrective balancing using influence coefficient methodology.

Types of vibration monitoring, measuring devices, and data acquisition instrumentation will also be discussed. Participants will learn how to calculate basic balance corrections and determine their effects. Vibration alarm and danger setpoint definition will be reviewed with the emphasis on safe and acceptable operation of turbine-generators as recommended by industrial standards and guidelines. Protection of personnel and equipment will be given high priority throughout the program. Abnormal operating system scenarios causing excessive vibration related to insufficient dynamic stiffness, bearing oil/metal temperature excursions, improper steam conditions, and other faults will be reviewed.

Finally, a significant portion of time will be spent reviewing and discussing practical troubleshooting techniques and reviewing machinery vibration case histories that are directly applicable to power generation rotating equipment
