How We Succeed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Through an increased understanding of the Science of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), MD&A leadership sees the value of Safety Differently as opposed to the historical and traditional views on safety management.<\/p>\n

Traditional Safety focuses on eliminating negatives like accidents and views people as problems to be controlled, emphasizing bureaucratic accountability. In contrast, Safety Differently defines safety by the presence of capacity for success; sees people as the solution, and stresses ethical responsibility towards those performing hazardous work.<\/strong> The goals of Safety Differently include focusing on key issues, prioritizing organizational learning and risk reduction, asking employees what they need, and measuring the capacity to work safely.<\/p>\n

Examples of this within MD&A’s EHS program include: <\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Our 3-Focus Areas<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cLine-of-fire Prevention\u201d; \u201cCrane & Rigging Excellence\u201d; and \u201cHazardous Energy Control\u201d \"\"<\/li>\n
  2. Our SHRC Teams<\/strong> \u2013 Teams that focus on \u201cSafety Hazard Reduction & Collaboration\u201d with-in each of our workgroups and across our organization, each led by MD&A Sr. Staff enabling \u201caction.\u201d \"\"<\/li>\n
  3. Our practical EHS Rhythms<\/strong> that focusing on true risk reduction for \u201cthe people who do difficult, dirty hazardous work.\u201d \"\"<\/li>\n
  4. Our \u201clearning Culture\u201d<\/strong> which includes the Reporting of all Near Misses & the recognition of Significant Injury or Fatality Potential (SIFp) \"\"<\/li>\n
  5. And our systems<\/strong> that focus on feedback, communication, & continuous Improvement. \"\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This commitment to EHS creates the capacity for all MD&A employees to practically support the success of our frontline workers, our customers, and the entire power industry.<\/p>\n
