MD&A’s Air Gap-Bot, our generator in-situ inspection robot, can perform full generator inspections without removing the field, saving time on the outage!

We can provide time and location-stamped high-definition video and still images. The MD&A Air Gap-Bot can perform a visual inspection, a stator wedge tightness assessment, and an Electromagnetic Core Imperfection Detection (ELCID) in order to find possible faults, shorts, material deterioration and more.

View our Air Gap-Bot, our generator in-situ inspection robot, video below and then call MD&A today at (314) 880-3000 or use our Contact form.

MD&A’s Air Gap-Bot can perform full generator inspections without removing the field.

This robotic generator inspection crawler can be used on generators with entrance gaps as narrow as 0.9 inches or 22.86 millimeters.
MD&A can provide the customer with time and location stamped high-definition video and still images.
We can utilize the MD&A Air Gap-Bot to perform a Visual Inspection, with supreme maneuverability.
The video cameras can view stator core laminations, stator windings, field surfaces, and wedges.
The robot can also effectively assess the tightness of stator wedges and generate a wedge tightness map.
Loose stator wedges may lead to vibration and erosion of stator insulation that can eventually cause failure.
Lastly it can perform an ELCID to detect fault currents that result from core insulation damage.
The Electromagnetic Core Imperfection Detection is an important tool to prevent hot spots that can cause deterioration of the core lamination insulation, leading to permanent damage of the stator winding insulation and core iron.
Traditionally, a generator inspection requires the rotor be removed from the stator. MD&A’s Air Gap-Bot can Find faults, shorts, material deterioration and more – all without removing the field.
